There has been a heck of a lot of buzz surrounding Charlie Hunnam lately. With two major films being released in the last year, and Charlie playing the leading role in both, it’s no wonder his name has been in the headlines.
But now that both The Lost City of Z and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword have been released, we’re wondering what role Charlie will be starring in next.
It turns out that he’ll be playing the iconic role of Henri Charriere in a remake of the classic, Papillon.
But when Charlie was first offered the role? He turned it down!
The film is incredibly famous, and the role of Henri Charriere was first carried by none other than classic screen icon, Steve McQueen.
Charlie explained, ‘So, the first time I heard about this, I was really intrigued. It was an incoming call, they said, '[director] Michael Noer is in town...' They tried to tell me who he was and I said, 'Listen, I know who he is, I've been a big, big fan for a long time - you're preaching to the choir.''
Hunnam then explains he was wary of trying to recreate such a classic, well-loved film. He told Noer that he wasn’t interested, and that the role simply wasn’t for him.
