1. Spot a Pokemon without any footprints on your Nearby list? Double tap your screen and it will appear!
2. Do you want a Pikachu more than anything? Then you'll have to walk away from the first three Pokemon you encounter at the very start of your game.
3. Each time you lock your phone screen, the game stops, right? So, if you want to put some distance in to hatch an egg by going for a long walk, you'll have to leave your phone screen unlocked. However...
4. ...there is something now being marketed called the Pokmemon Go Plus device. It's a bracelet you must purchase and wear that actually keeps the game active, even if your phone is locked. Thus allowing you to catch Pokemon and use Pokestops.
5. But if you don't want to spring for Pokemon Go Plus, just tinker with the Battery Saver option on the app settings. This will turn your screen off but keep the app running. Very handy for saving your phone's juice while out and about trolling for Pokemon.
6. Curious about how far away the Pokemon you see actually are? Every footprint between you and the Pokemon is 50 meters of distance. Three footprints mean that the Pokemon is less than 200 meters away. Gray Pokemon are ones you haven't yet logged in your Pokedex.
7. Select a Pokemon via your Nearby screen and you will find yourself with a better chance of catching that species in the future.
8. Don't waste your Poke Balls! If you throw one and miss, pick it back up by double tapping on it. You'll recover the Poke Ball and avoid having to waste multiple balls on a single Pokemon.
9. The three teams in the game are based on the three legendary birds from the first generation—Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres. Zapdos represents the Instinct team, and focuses on hatching eggs. Articuno represents the Mystic team, and focuses on evolving Pokemon. Moltres represents the Valor team and focuses on battles.
10. Don't anticipate battles to be turn-based like they are in the traditional games. Battles in Pokemon Go are based largely on reflexes. Swipe left and right to dodge attacks. Tap on your opponent to do damage. And keep an eye on your special meter—when the bars fill, your Pokemon can perform their special attack for heavy damage.
11. Even if you can't defeat every Pokemon in a gym, it's no reason to back out. Every time you defeat a defending Pokemon, you take 1000 of their prestige points. The gym's ownership is entirely dependent on the defending Pokemon's prestige, so even if you're only able to take down one or two of them, you're still playing a large part in the destruction of the gym's prestige.
12. Keep swinging at that gym, even if you're unsure of your Pokemon's abilities. Remember—you get a 6 Pokemon team to take down the gym's defenses, and 6 weaker Pokemon are certainly capable of knocking down a single strong Pokemon.
13. Did you know that you can name your Pokemon anything you'd like? Just click the pencil icon next to your Pokemon's name.
14. When a Pokemon evolves, it's automatically revived and fully healed! Keep this in mind before you spend all your potions and revives!
15. You can up your CP (Combat Power) by powering up your Pokemon after they're fully evolved.
16. Looking for a daily XP bonus? Just assign your Pokemon to a nearby gym. Not only will you knab the extra XP, but you'll also earn yourself some Stardust and Coins. To access your prizes, swing by the Shop and click the blue shield icon. Check in every day or two to see how your Pokemon is doing.
17. When you visit Pokestops, you can quickly tap the 'X' button and any requisite items will automatically pop into your inventory. Many people use this as a handy 'drive-by Pokestop,' while they're in a vehicle and on the go. Please only use this when you're a passenger though. Don't Pokemon Go and drive!
18. The rustling grass you see on your screen indicates a popular spawn location for new Pokemon. Hang out there and you're sure to find some new Pokemon for capture.
19. Keep in mind that everything you see on your Pokemon Go screen is a duplication of the real world around you. That means streets are layered over real streets, parks over real parks, and so on. So, if you're trying to map out how to get somewhere in the game, just use the real world markers around you as a guide!
20. Some Pokemon are nocturnal and can only be caught at night! So, all you night owls, keep your eyes peeled and be sure to open up the game on your late night ventures.
21. Some Pokemon can only be found in certain areas and in certain parts of the world, just like many of the animal species that roam our earth. You wanna catch 'em all? You're going to need to do a lot of traveling, my friend.
22. As the game is released in more and more countries, the app servers have been getting a tad overwhelmed. If you've got slow game play, or a laggy connection, shut the game off entirely (don't just minimize the screen). You'll refresh your connection and will likely experience better speeds.
23. Having problems with glitches in gym battles? Some people report having to repeatedly restart gym battles, as they get kicked out before the match begins. If you experience this problem, wait a few minutes. The servers need to process the glitched battle before you can start a new one.
24. As a beginner trainer, you'll come across a lot of basic Pokemon, like Zubats, Pidgeys, and Drowzees. As you get stronger and attain higher levels, you'll find Pokemon with higher Combat Points, as well as rarer Pokemon species. So, keep at it!
25. The colored ring around a Pokemon indicates how challenging it will be to catch. A green ring means it'll be an easy catch. Yellow and orange rings indicate more challenging catches, and red is the most difficult catch of all.
26. Looking to incubate and hatch a Pokemon Egg? You usually have to log a distance of 2-5 kilometers before your egg will hatch. Some people have tried hopping in a car to hatch an egg, but the game will limit your distance if it notices you moving at a high speed. The game pedometer takes your movement into account as well, so it's best to stick to good ol' walking to hatch that egg. Running and skateboarding seem to work too.
27. If you see a green ring around a wild Pokemon, it should be a fairly easy catch. But wait until the ring is at its smallest before tossing the Pokeball. You're almost guaranteed to catch the Pokemon. You can also manipulate the size of the ring by holding your finger over the Pokemon. The ring will shrink when it appears.
28. Pokemon with orange and red rings mean they won't be an easy capture. You'll have to calm these more tenacious Pokemon down first with Berries. Berries will relax the Pokemon and turn their rings green, allowing you to capture them with greater ease.
29. If you see a Pokemon that displays a set of question marks ('???') as its combat points, you're going to need to pull out all the stops for a capture. This type of Pokemon has a high escape risk, so use any items you have to your advantage.
30. You gain XP for every Pokemon you catch, but you can also net bonus XP for the rating of your catch. Each catch has 4 ratings, blank/good/nice/excellent, netting you an additional 0/10/50/100 bonus XP respectively. Always aim for the middle of your target circle when catching a Pokemon. This will help boost your catch rating.
31. Try opening up Pokemon Go while you're traveling. Whether it be a car, train, or bus, you can continue to play, and your avatar will run alongside you. But be warned—if you blow past any PokeStops or Pokemon, it can be intensely frustrating, as you likely won't have time to finish interacting with them. Try to save your interactions for when you're completely stopped for a time. However...
32. ...any Pokemon you encounter and successfully engage while traveling will stay with you, and you'll be able to catch them later once you're stationary. So long as they don't flee, of course.
33. Wanna throw a curveball? You'll get an XP boost but you run the risk of burning through your Pokeball supply. because it's a hard move to master. Try it out by holding the Pokeball and making a rotating motion. The Pokeball will begin to sparkle. Then, let it fly. The first few times you'll likely miss, but don't worry, you'll figure it out.
34. The Pokemon world takes time to load up, so when you open your game, it's good to give the server several minutes to warm up. Also, pay attention to the spinning Pokeball in the top left corner. That indicates Pokemon are hiding nearby, so keep wandering to discover what's around.
